Calcium Silicon Uses
Since calcium has strong affinity with oxygen, sulfur, hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon in the steel melt, calcium silicon alloy is mainly used for deoxidation, degassing and sulfur removal in the steel melt. Calcium silica produces a strong exothermic effect when added to the steel. Calcium becomes calcium vapor in the steel, which has an agitation effect on the steel and is beneficial to the floating of non-metallic inclusions.
After deoxidation, calcium silica alloy produces non-metallic impurities with larger particles and easy to float, and also changes the shape and nature of non-metallic impurities. Therefore, calcium silica alloys are used to produce clean steel, high quality steel with low oxygen and sulfur content, and special performance steel with exceptionally low oxygen and sulfur content.
The addition of calcium silica alloy can eliminate the tumor in the ladle water outlet of steel with aluminum as the final deoxidizer, and the clogging of the intermediate tank water outlet of continuous steel casting and refining. In steel refining technology outside the furnace, the use of calcium silica powder or core wire for deoxidation and desulfurization, so that the content of oxygen and sulfur in steel to very low; also control the sulfide form in steel, while improving the utilization of calcium.
In cast iron production, in addition to deoxidation and purification, calcium silica alloy also plays a pregnant role, which helps to form fine-grained or spherical graphite; makes the graphite in gray cast iron evenly distributed and reduces the tendency of white mouth; and can increase silicon, desulfurization and improve the quality of cast iron.

Calcium Silicon Cored Wire
Calcium silicon cored wire is an additive used in steelmaking to be incorporated into the steel through specialized – wire feeding equipment during the steelmaking process. The use of calcium silica wire is conducive to adjusting and controlling the content of easy-to-oxidize elements and trace elements, which can substantially increase the alloy yield, reduce smelting costs, shorten smelting time, precisely control the composition, play a role in purifying the steel and changing the nature and form of some inclusions, improve the casting condition and enhance the quality of the molten steel.
The main raw material of calcium silica cored wire is calcium silica powder, which is used as the core material, and the outer skin is steel skin, which is pressed by pressing machine.
Calcium silica cored wire can be used in steel making to purify steel inclusions, improve the castability of steel, improve the performance of steel, and significantly improve the alloy yield, reduce alloy consumption, reduce steel making costs, with significant economic benefits.
Steel in the smelting, refining process will generate a large number of oxides or deoxidation products, these oxides, if not removed will have a fatal impact on the intrinsic quality of steel, so feed calcium silica cored wire into the steel, the use of calcium’s strong reducibility, and deoxidation products to reduce the role of metal oxides in steel, generating calcium oxide, or with other oxides to form a low melting point compound that can easily float in the steel, that is, calcium oxide denaturation, thus reducing the oxide in the steel, purifying the steel and improving the purity of the steel.
Solid core calcium silica wire has the characteristics of easy control, easy preservation, low cost of calcium treatment and stable calcium treatment effect. This is the advantage of silicon-calcium cored wire over silicon-calcium alloy.
