From September 13 to 16, 2022, the 29th Annual Meeting of China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals and Chemicals Importers and Exporters & 2022 China Non-Ferrous Metal Mineral Resources Summit was held in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. The conference is co-hosted by China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Metals, Minerals and Chemicals and Shanghai Steel Union E-commerce Co., LTD.
Ferroalloy Imports & Exports Overview
In the afternoon of September 14, Ms. Tan Xuezhou, Secretary General of Ferroalloy Branch of China Chamber of Commerce for Imports and Exports of Minmetals, made a wonderful presentation on the topic of Ferroalloy import and export in the first half of 2022 and the outlook for the second half of 2022.
Tan analyzed the global ferroalloy trade, including the first half of 2022, the world’s leading importers of ferroalloy imports, China ranked first, followed by the European Union, Indonesia, the United States, Japan, South Korea and others; The first place in the import volume of the main imported varieties is ferro chromium followed by ferro nickel, ferro silicon, ferro silicon manganese, ferro manganese and others; Among them, the geopolitical conflict is the main factor affecting the import of ferroalloy to the EU.
The leading global ferroalloy exporters in the first half of 2022 were Indonesia, South Africa, India, China and others. In the first half of 2022, the major global exports of ferroalloys were ferric nickel, ferrochrome, ferrosilica-manganese, ferrosilicon, ferromanganese and others.

At present, China implements export licensing administration system and foreign trade policy of iron alloys with export tariff, among which enterprises can apply for export licensing based on the contract in the local business hall.
China Ferro Alloys Market Analysis
The import and export of ferroalloy in China is analyzed. China is the largest importer of ferroalloy products in the world. In the import trade of main ferroalloy products in China, ferrochrome and nickel-iron are net imports. Ferrosilicon and manganese silicon are net exports. In the first half of 2022, China’s imports of iron alloys remained high, with a cumulative import of 3.54 million tons, up 2% over the previous year.
In terms of exports, China exported 670,000 tons of ferroalloy in the first half of 2022, with a year-on-year growth of 76%, among which, the exports of ferrosilicon and silicon-manganese increased significantly; Ferrochrome export tariff increases, the export quantity is still growing; Ferromanganese has a small base and grows rapidly.
Finally, she carries on the outlook to the ferroalloy import and export market. In the future, the import of ferroalloy needs to pay attention to the demand situation and price support. The export demand is developing well, but it is affected by geopolitical factors.
