Ferrochrome is an iron alloy composed of chromium and iron, and is an important alloy additive in steelmaking. Due to the improvement of the steelmaking process, when AOD method (see refining outside the furnace) is used to produce stainless steel and other steel grades, carbon ferrochrome (mainly charging grade ferrochrome) is loaded into the furnace, so only low and micro-carbon ferrochrome is added in the later period to adjust the composition, so now the focus of ferrochrome production is refining carbon ferrochrome.
Micro-carbon ferrochrome is mainly used in the production of stainless steel, acid-resistant steel and heat-resistant steel. Smelting methods include electric silicon thermal process and thermal blending process. Medium and low carbon ferrochrome is used in the production of medium and low carbon structural steel, chromium steel, alloy structural steel. High carbon ferrochrome (including recycled ferrochrome)
