Silicon nitride is a high-performance ceramic crystal material with the chemical formula Si3N4, which is composed of silicon and nitrogen. It has excellent mechanical properties, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature stability, so it is widely used in various industrial fields.
Silicon nitride is very strong, especially hot-pressed silicon nitride, and is one of the hardest substances in the world. It is extremely resistant to high temperature, the strength can be maintained to 1200℃ without falling, after heating will not melt into melt, until 1900℃ will decompose, and has amazing chemical corrosion resistance, can resist almost all inorganic acids and less than 30% caustic soda solution, but also can resist many organic acid corrosion; At the same time, it is also a high performance electrical insulation material.
Silicon nitride for:
Silicon nitride is widely used in the manufacture of high-temperature structural parts, cutting tools, bearings, valves and seals. Due to its excellent mechanical strength and high temperature stability, silicon nitride is widely used in aerospace, automotive manufacturing, electronic devices and semiconductors. In addition, silicon nitride can also be used as a catalyst, adsorbent and optical material.
Silicon nitride properties:
Silicon nitride has many outstanding physical and chemical properties. It has a density of 3.25g/cm³ and a hardness of 9, which is harder than steel. Moreover, the refractive index of silicon nitride is about 1.9, which is more than twice that of ordinary glass. In addition, silicon nitride also has good corrosion resistance and high temperature stability, can withstand high temperatures up to 1400 ° C.

Silicon nitride application:
Silicon nitride is widely used in industry. For example, it can be used to manufacture high-temperature structural parts, such as furnace internal parts, gas turbine blades, etc. At the same time, silicon nitride can also be used to manufacture mechanical parts such as cutting tools, bearings and valves. In the field of electronic devices and semiconductors, silicon nitride can also be used as a substrate material, packaging material and insulation material. In addition, silicon nitride can also be used as a catalyst, adsorbent and optical material.
Silicon nitride production method:
There are two kinds of production methods of silicon nitride ceramic products, namely reaction sintering method and hot pressing sintering method. The reaction sintering method is to form silicon powder or a mixture of silicon powder and silicon nitride powder according to the general production method of ceramic products. Then in the nitriding furnace, pre-nitriding at 1150~1200 ° C, after obtaining a certain strength, it can be machined on the machine tool, and then further nitriding at 1350~1450 ° C for 18~36h, until all become silicon nitride. In this way, the product size is accurate and the volume is stable.
Hot pressing sintering method is to press hot forming sintering of silicon nitride powder with a small amount of additives (such as MgO, Al2O3, MgF2, AlF3 or Fe2O3, etc.) at a pressure above 19.6MPa and under the condition of 1600~1700℃. Generally, the product obtained by hot pressing sintering method has higher density and better performance than that obtained by reaction sintering.
