Medium carbon ferromanganese is made by smelting manganese ore in blast furnace and electric furnace. Manganese density 7.43 g/cm3, melting point 1245℃, boiling point 2150℃.
Manganese has a great affinity with oxygen and can form stable manganese oxide with oxygen. In addition, as an alloying element additive, ferromanganese can enhance the hardness, ductility, toughness and wear resistance of steel.
Ferromanganese is widely used in structural steel, tool steel, stainless heat-resistant steel, wear-resistant steel and other alloy steel. Manganese also desulfurizes and reduces the harmful effects of sulfur.
Medium and low carbon ferromanganese can be divided into low carbon ferromanganese with carbon content of less than 0.7% and medium carbon ferromanganese with carbon content of 0.7% to 2.0%.
The ferroalloy composed of ferromanganese and iron, the development of economy and technology, the demand for more and more, it has what uses, can be so widely used.
The general international standard of carbon ferromanganese is 75 ~ 80% manganese, and in order to adapt to the raw material conditions of low manganese ore grade, China stipulates a lower grade of manganese (electric furnace ferromanganese containing more than 65% manganese, blast furnace ferromanganese containing more than 50% manganese). Smelting carbon ferromanganese mainly used blast furnaces in the past, with the development of electric power industry, the use of electric furnaces gradually increased.

Use of ferromanganese:
In steelmaking, it is used as a deoxidizer and alloy additive, and is the most used iron alloy. The manganese ore used for smelting ferromanganese is generally required to contain 40 to 50% manganese, the ratio of manganese to iron is greater than 7, and the ratio of phosphorus to manganese is less than 0.003. Before smelting, manganese carbonate ore needs to be roasted first, and powder ore needs to be sintered to make blocks.
Ores with high iron and phosphorus content can generally only be used together, or through selective reduction to produce low iron and low phosphorus manganese rich slag. Coke is used as a reducing agent in smelting, and some plants also use lean coal or anthracite. The auxiliary raw material is mainly lime, and silica is generally added when smelting manganese silicon alloy.
